I am looking at this $4 wireless adapter. I desperately need one, but I really know nothing about wireless adapters and what I need to look for when buying one. Will this work for me? Thanks guys!

How shitty? And about how much would it cost for it to not be shitty? Is it possible to get a "not so shitty" one within a $5 budget?

Probably pretty shitty. Not good range and piss poor speed is what I'm guessing. Is that for that library PC?

Also I'd say save up your money and get something actually good, like this.

You get what you pay for. I would spend at least 20 or 30 on one, and a PCI one at that. Look at TP link, I think they have some budget networking gear, they are not to bad. I run one of their Dual band cards in the gaming rig.

Here is what I have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4P03CW2924

Here is their adapters: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100158094%2050012120&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=30

No, this is for my own rig. I've been sharing internet with my old macbook through an ethernet cable up until now. Would this 5 dollar thing be an upgrade or a downgrade to that you think? I can just live with my macbook being an over-glorified wireless adapter if It will get me better performance.

What type of Wireless card does the Mac have in it? A,B,G,N, AC? Will it work, yes. However my friend who used USB for networking hated it. It does not work well generally. At least pay the 10 bucks for the Tplink USB adapter. The fact is, you get what you pay for.

How do I check what kind of wireless card my mac has? I've honestly never had any reason to, so I'm completely clueless. I looked under system report and all it says is "type: Airport, Hardware: Airport" xD Unfortunately I only have $5 to spend on this at the moment. It will take me a couple months at the rate I earn money to be able to afford a $10 anything. So at the moment my only two options are the ethernet cable to my macbook while I save, or buy a $5 adapter right now, and wait even longer till I can afford something more legit.
