quick question on intel g3258 memory specs

Go to solution Solved by itachipirate,

The Intel 4590 and newer CPUs still only "officially" support like 1333mhz or 1600mhz. The CPU isn't what you have to worry about at all, it will take w/e RAM the motherboard supports.

TL:DR Only go by your motherboard max RAM speed

at first glance looks like the value 2400mhz ram i chosen before is out because it seems support 1333mhz which is a surprisingly slow speed and i want confirmation, besides that does the ram NEED to be 1.5v or under; this may seem dumb since i'm looking at intel's official specs but i just want to be sure.

EDIT: if i go be with higher speed ram than the one is supports will it be compatible but just run at the supported speed?

Ran 2400MHz fine when I had a G3258. Should be no problem if you're on a Z97 board.

Generally yes, but not always on non-OC supporting boards like H81 and B85.  While the board specs may list support for 1600 mhz RAM, this only applies when the CPU (e.g. a 4590) also supports the higher speed.  With a G3258 on some of those boards the best you'll do is 1333 mhz.
