Duel CPU configuration?

Only 2011-3 Xeons and Opterons can be put in dual CPU setups.

What would a duel CPU config be done for? Increasing performance if you have two of the same CPUs? Or is it like a cou for rendering and a cou more optimised for gaming like 6700k + 5960X? Thanks

 

Applications where one CPU isn't enough. For example rendering or virtualisation.

 

You have to use identical CPUs. They have to be Xeons (if buying Intel) or Opterons (AMD). The Xeon must have a model number that begins with a 2, 4, 6 or 8 (as this denotes how many can be run on the same motherboard).

Yes. And a bit expensive too. Dual socket motherboards start around 500 dollars.
