i7 - 4790k - Which 120mm rad? -

Hi

Just about to start my first build, I haven't bought any parts yet but the case I have chosen supports a 120mm radiator.

My build: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/bW9Dt6

My question is,

Is a 120mm radiator big enough to cool the 4790k? Its clocks at 4.0 so I'm not looking to overclock it, I haven't done much overclocking and I don't see the point right now at the cpu will be quite a step up.

I like the look of these

coolmaster neptune 120xl       https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rln12x24pkr1

silverstone T03                        http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverstone-Tundra-Water-Cooler-2x120mm/dp/B00DH9DUDA

Done anyone have any experience with these at all? I think I am leaning towards the coolmaster at the moment.

Cheers

Andy

You'd be better off going for a good air cooler, rather than a 120mm rad. For that price, they will perform around the same, or better, and will be quieter.

If you're going for an AIO, 240mm should be the minimum, really.

120mm rads aren't worth it.  Something like a Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 or a Noctua NH-D14 would cool much better.  Also, what's up with the 2 SSD's?  I would get 1 larger capacity.  Don't get the Kingston V300.  It's only slightly faster than a HDD.  You're also missing the GPU.

SNIP

Hello and welcome to the forum, personally I wouldn't use a 120mm rad to cool an overclocked i7, I would use the biggest rad I could find/afford to fit or make fit in my case.

welcome and pls follow your topics @anderoo

my devilscanyon runs @ 35-40°C idle with corsair h100i gtx ( 240mm )

you could easy put a scythe mugen or noctua nh d15 on it for good cooling, even if you dont oc

as oshina said AIO with less than 240mm are a waste of money

if you dont want to OC get an 4790 without the K and save some bucks

use this guideline ;)

I have the 4790K too, I video edit on it, and under load it sits at 56 Degrees. I use the BeQuiet Dark Rock 3, can only recommend it!

The issues is that the larger air coolers like the dark rock 3 and the nh-d14 won't fit in the case. And I do like the case, I want to go compact.

And I already have the gpu and the psu in my current tower, I'm just moving them over.

According to PCPP, the NH-D14 fits.

Cheers for the quick responses guys! That silencio case can support 240mm rad but that on the intakes, but drawing in preheated air that should be cooling the case doesn't really make much sense to me.

And like I said /\ /\ the larger air coolers aren't gunna fit.
