Hey I jut wanted an outsider opinion on an upgrade I want to do. I currently have a pretty good computer and the specs are:

Intel core 2 quad Q9550

XFX 980i SLI motherboard

2 x GTX 470

16GB of Ram...(I think)

The power supply just blew and I need to get a new one, and have been wanting to get a new i7 some time soon and now seems like a good time as my birthday is coming up and I need a new psu anyway.

Haven't been keeping an eye out for every new processor and mother board lately and wanted to get some opinions, I play a lot of games and do some photo and video editing, what would you recommend?

Also if you have time for a $1500  (budget could be stretched to $3000) build without worrying about storage, monitor and keyboard and mouse what would you build?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You serious about this mate? i5 is so much faster than 8350. i7 even more so.

Okay i'm building the 'pcpartpicker' for you Kyle:

The question is, do you like to overclock stuff? it's essential question you have to answer as it influences a LOT of stuff.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

i5 is so much faster than 8350.

Not true. i5 is better in single threaded games/applications, the 8350 curb stomps the i5 in games and applications that use more than 4 cores. And with the next gen consoles using 8 core CPU's, you would imagine that games will become more optimised for 8 cores. Some games that are out now use more than 4 cores, such as FarCry 3 and Crysis 3.

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 @ Stock, CPU cooler: Dark Rock 4, Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX, RAM: 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4 @ 3000Mhz, GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 ACX 3.0, SSD: Crucial P1 1TB M.2 + 2x120GB SSDs, Case: Corsair 110R, PSU: Corsair TX650M, OS: Windows 10 64-bit.

Wow as many as 3 applications out there where 8350 'stomps' the i5 (you call 20-30% faster in few applications a 'stomp'?)..

Where do you get info about next-gen 8 core gaming? I've only heard about new games using 6 cores on the next-gen consoles. 2 cores for OS only. And they are so slow that ALL game ports will run really great on any CPU we have today, from Phenom II to i7 Sandy Bridge Extreme.

FC3/Crysis 3. 2 games that use 8 cores... hmm... I'd rather have Intel for overall system snappiness and 99,99% of applications out there.

You guys should focus on facts not some magical future-proofing. Kinda reminds me of buying Phenom ii x6 because it was future proof few years ago. Then Sandy Bridge popped up and killed Phenom II 6 core with just 4 cores.

Unlike with the Phenom series era, we already have some games that utilise more than 4 cores. Games will be using more than 4 cores in the future, even if they're only optimised for 6 cores, the 8350 will still win over the i5. Not to mention it's cheaper, the motherboards are also cheaper. So you're getting more performance for less, I don't see how you wouldn't opt for that.

Oh man well done. get a 3990 an a crappy mobo (and the CPU cooler?) and he has PC for less, yes and? Im giving him QUALITY and PERFORMANCE. That Asus Mobo is the onlyone I like from Asus, he can get an Asrock 990FX Extreme4 and have the same performance, but that asus sabertooth is kickass.

Mobos cheaper? What. And no, you are actually getting less performance.

Show me 1 combo of FX-8320 or 8350 (you choose) + CPU cooler that will be capable of handling it (or maybe you want stock? that's okay as well, you choose) + mobo you think will handle FX and i will provide you i5+mobo combo (stock cooler) that will be faster and around same price.

Ill add it up for you:

.

8350 - 9.109

8150 - 7.751

i5-4670k - 7.536

Edit2: And im not an AMD fan Boy. I would still get an i7-4770K for a 1.8k+ build but you can get this performance in and AMD build which will destroy value for money any intel build of similar price/quality.

Yep. and here's the i5:

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-4670+%40+3.40GHz&id=1933

Scores 7500. which translates to 18% less than FX-8350 and 9% less than FX-8320. Where's the advantage in this particular benchmark? Especially that it's just another synthethic heavily multithreaded benchmark like 7zip. Gaming is more complicated to synchronise multiple threads than encoding/decoding, which is why nobody done even 1 fully multi-threaded game yet.

Good thing nobody ran any FPU-based multithread benchmarks or FX might fail there.

Linus video shows clearly that i5 has the lead.

And I already said i'm not accepting Tek Syndicate as viable source of any benchmarks cuz they know nothing how to benchmark stuff.

Also i like how you guys take video benchmarks. I dont like these, too little time to actually bench stuff. 3-5 applications? LMAO. This is a complex benchmark:

So now I come and solve all your problems!!!

Get an Intel Xeon E3-1230v3. i5 price, but hyperthreading, so i7 performance.

Also, as you cant oc a Xeon, you can use a cheaper non oc motherboard with like a h87 or b85 chipset.

Personal Build Project "Rained-On"

helped building up the CPU Overclocking Database and GPU Overclocking Database, check them out ;)
