Freezing

Hi! I am very new to this forum, but I have came here for a reason.

Since the last few days I've had problems with my pc. It freezes every now and then, most of the time it's just random, sometimes it takes hours and sometimes it freezes while I type in my password. I have re-installed windows 10 and it's drivers. What's going wrong?

Specs:

Amd FX-8350

Msi R9 270x Hawk

Hyperx Fury SSD 240GB (C drive, uefi)

Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P

An hdd (1tb)

Usb devices:

External 3TB Usb 3.0 drive

Siberia V3 Prism

Logitech MX performance mouse

Genesis RX55 keyboard

I am running windows 10 with the amd crimson driver.

how much ram do you have? what HD?

 

when is the last time you cleaned the dust buildup out of the cpu heat sink and fan/the gpu heat sink and fan and the case fans?

 

how old is the build?

500Watt sharkoon PSU, might this be the problem?

The build is half a year old, I cleaned out the dust a few days ago but with a hairdryer (cold ofcourse) so it might not have been very effective.

what happens if you diasable page filing on the HD?

 

hair drier....=... static discharge.

 

are any of the games you are having problems with soley on the SSD?

 

you keep the drive defragged/free of malware/cookies? (seagate)

 

what if you have only the ssd and the internal drive hooked up?

 

no skype/or messaging/chatter/streaming open at same time?

 

when you reformatted the ssd did you goback and set it up ( indexing/defragging, etc. )/ disabled......... search out what you need to do to set it up right.

 

have you opened up the device manager to see if anything needs updating?

 

windows is completely up to date?////////////// and auto updates for windows and auto search for drivers is disabled?

Page filing?

Recently formatted the HDD so I guess that won't be a problem.

I install all my games on the HDD, so none of them are on my SSD.

I have ran my system with just my mouse and keyboard, it worked but my system works for a few minutes or for a few hours, its totally random so I can't really say that that is the problem.

I haven't installed any chatting services since my clean install.

I haven't checked what I had to do with my SSD because my system worked fine 'till a few days ago, I have formatted, converted it to GPT and then installed windows on it.

I have checked everything and nothing says it needs updates.

Windows is up to date, auto updates and updates for drivers are turned on I think.

turn the auto update stuff off.

turn off page filing.

turn off defragg.

turn off indexing.

can't remember the rest ( google it )

 

the games in a steam folder?

 

windows10 is crap that data mines users on a constant basis. it isn't a real operating system. install spybot antibeacon.

 

getting tired. back to this in 12 hours.

I did all thosw things you said I should do, I just ran my system and it both times froze after about 2-3 minutes.

what are you using to cool the cpu>?

disconnect all drives except forthe boot drive and run the machine for a while... ( all drives )

A friend of mine just said that it might be the PSU, my system runs just under 500 watts and my PSU is 500 watts, they do degrade over time, don't they? Might that be the problem?

or maybe the modem needs to be power cycled?

I am Lan connected, the ethernet is acting weird too though, but I don't think that could freeze my pc, right?

I took out every drive, except my boot drive, it worked fine for about two minutes, then it crashed again. It just froze. Starting to think it is the psu, gonna run memtest now, if I can get it to install

I booted into memtest, ran it. It passed, 0 fails. Starting to think it is my PSU even more. I'm gonna try to run windows 7 from another drive to see if that changes anything.

Yet another update:

It just failed installing windows, it froze during the install.

did you pull the heatsink off ther processor, pull the processor out to check the pins and reapply thermal paste and reatach the heatsink and fan?

I did not, I just ran windows fine for about three hours. Now it crashed again. I'm going to take a look for how long it is gonna run now.

If it crashes again, I will try to take of the heatsink etcetera tomorrow!

i think the board is toast.

 

you did a cmos reset and made sure raid was disabled?  i know, simple things, maybe unrelated but want to find out something.

Did not do a cmos reset, will also do that tomorrow. Raid has never been enabled as far as I know

If you are getting a bsod then run whocrashed and check the dump file for the code you are getting.

Never had a bsod, just freezing. It has shut off twice but turned on directly after again..
