Can't choose between two Laptops

Hey, I am having a difficult time choosing from these two laptops.

HP Envy 15     Price:$650

Screen Res: 1366 x 768

Intel Core i5 3230M 2.6 GHz
1 TB HDD 5400 RPM
8 GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 740

or this one

Asus Q500A      Price: $650

Screen Res: 1920 x 1080 (Touchscreen)

Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz
750 GB HDD 5400 RPM
8 GB DDR3 RAM

Intel HD 4000

I will be using these laptops mostly for uni, and play a few games on them such as mw2, or Black ops occasionally.

I like the ASUS because of the 1080p and i7, but if you want to play games like CoD then I don't know how well they would run on HD4000, so a dedicated(yet low end) GT 740 might be some help...

I'd go ASUS personally.

Since you plan on playing games I'd go with the one with a GTX 740m. The other laptop has a far better screen and processor (and brand) but if you really want to be playing games on it HD 4000 graphics just won't cut it.

Oh and here are the approximate framerates that you will be getting in a selection of games.

easy. get the second one.

better screen. higher res. touch. better processor.

the only reason to get the other one is for the GPU which is mediocre.

i would rather have a nicer laptop than have a slightly better gaming expierence on a worse screen

For gaming the first one will be far better with the better gpu and lower res screen however for call of duty I would imagine intels graphics will be enough and the other specs are better personally I would go with the second option

I'd go with the Asus one. The GPU isn't that much better than HD4000, plus playing on low ain't that bad.

Grab the HP. The GTX 740 is way more powerful than the HD 4000 graphics. The HD 4000 won't keep up at 1080p. The 1TB storage capacity makes it all the more better

If it were me I'd get the Asus just because it has full-size arrow keys. Sometimes it's the little things that matter.

On the other hand, the numbers you've provided don't quite match up with my searches. $650 for the Q500A is a refurbished model where I found it, while the HP Envy 15 only has 6 GB of RAM at that price.

But overall, I'd say go with the Envy. You should probably put in a little extra to get the 8GB version, but it's lighter and new rather than used, as well as having longer battery life and dedicated graphics. If you were going to be watching movies rather than gaming I would recommend the higher resolution screen, but a dedicated graphics card is a big help and having the lower resolution screen will avoid taxing it too hard.

I would go with the first one because it has a bigger HDD which will allow you to store more stuff and it has a better gpu.

I already have 10 TB of storage at home, so storage is not a problem.

You also said that you have a gaming desktop at home, in which case graphics would not be a problem either.

Well, it doesn't really matter to me. When it comes down to it, the HP looks moderately better on paper for gaming due to a much more favorable graphics processor-to-resolution ratio, or productivity due to lower weight and longer battery life. The ASUS option would be better for media consumption due to its higher resolution screen. At the end of the day it might be best to get some hands on and see if there's anything that doesn't show up in the numbers, or if you were looking for more general recommendations I have had good experiences with ASUS in the past while HP has never particularly impressed me, but we've already said all there is to say: The HP Envy 15 looks like a better option for light gaming based on the specifications available online.
