overkill CPU!

hi, i have a friend that is planing on building a new gaming pc, he is changing from xbox gaming to pc gaming.

the problem is that he is planing on building it with this parts: i7 3770k, MSI B75A-G43, some random brand 8gb ddr3 1333mhz ram, a 650w power supply, a wd black drive 1t and the funny part a 650 gtx or a hd 7750.

i dont understand why he is buying a 3770k i told him it is a overkill with that system specs and he was like ohh just because is better than yours, i use a 3570k and is oc to 4.2ghz with the h110 and he is no even going to oc he does not know what overclocking means he was like what do the k stands for and i was like open overclock and he was like ohh cool... whats that. the worst part is that he is all concern about the money and compromising the video card getting a low end one instead of getting a i5 or something like that and getting a good gpu.

it will be very helpfull if you guys comment here and say is true that a 3770k is overkill and if he is not going to oc that's worst.

and the memory is so bad, is horrible and i told him to get the corsair vengeance that are like super cheep and he was like nooooo, this ones are better and he does not know nothing about pc he was like whats the best intel gpu there and i was like there are no intel gpu and he was like yea amd and intel got ati and bla bla and all that stuff.

and the funny part is that he is like yea i am going to play planet site 2 on ultra and i am like ...not and he thinks that with that pc he is going to be future proof for like years.

what do you guys think about that?

Tell him to go and find atleast 3 games that are well known that utilize more than 3 cores and utilise hyperthreading - then we can talk.

Unless he is going to be rendering video or over clocking that CPU will be completely useless to him. If he's going to get a 3770k at least get a 660ti or above.

I had trouble explaining why my i5 2500k was more powerful than my friends i7 in his laptop lol. Does planetside 2 even have an ultra setting i just have everything on high?

i run with dual xfx 7870 ghz on crossfire and they run perfectly, but sometimes the drivers give me a hard time. he mostly plays first person shooters and that kind of games, also he thinks that because his cpu will be so cool and powerful that will make the gpu useless and it will run perfectly. and my mobo is a msi Z77A-G41.

deer me your PC will crush his lol i'm running a single 7870 at the moment I was having driver issues such as texture flickering and stuff like that up until 12.1, now running great using 13.2 beta 6 drivers

As other members have said, unless he's doing some video editing...the 3770K is just not worth it. I would choose a 3570K or - if he streams his games(or desires to do so), an 8350 from AMD. Tek Syndicate did a video comparison between the 3570K and 8350 when streaming games. 8350 won. Also with certain games, hyper-threading can actually lower your FPS. So if he plays games that don't support that too well...that'd be a good reason to not get a 3770K.

my drivers are like going crazy and one of the 7870 out and they stop uninstalling and installing and making random stuff like not showing up the temp and getting the temperature wrong. so now i am going to get a third party driver or the beta version and i think that will make it better.

the cool part is that in battlefield 3 using only one i get like half fps is like if that game escalate like perfectly on the amount of cards i put in.

and the worst part is that the stupid corsair link when i use dual 7870 its start making things and changing temperatures and putting the fans on 75 percent and then turning them off because it recognizes them wrong, i just hate that software i will like them to update them or something like that.

witch card manufacturer or whatever they call who makes the card is yours?

its an MSI TwinFrozrIII. Got a fan profile set up in msi afterburner nice and quiet got it clocked at 1110/1450 am still slowly moving the core clock up. I have a H100 got them on sale before the h100i came out for around 33% off I just have an after market fan speed controller, the 650D controller couldn't get it quiet enough fuck corsair link lol
