Hello. This is my plans for my new gaming rig im going to buy in some months. Every time i change my plans i write it here.
1. My goal

My goal is to build a pc that lasts at least some years & a pc that can run every game with no problem.

2. Specs

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£289.14 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  (£116.54 @ Amazon UK)
Memory: Kingston Savage 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  (£121.75 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (£61.98 @ Novatech)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card  (£539.93 @ More Computers)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe ATX Full Tower Case  (£136.74 @ More Computers)
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  (£110.14 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £1516.08

3. Monitors
At the moment im rocking two monitors. A Samsung 16:9 24" and a Eizo 16:10 24". I plan on buying a gaming 1440p 144hz.

4. What am im going to use it for?
The pc im using now is a pretty low/mid-end gamingpc with a 4460 and a 750ti.

I want a pc that can play any game i want to. Games as Fallout 4, GTA V etc.
That's primarily what im going to use it for, so it's a bit overkill.

I think it's fine, haha. Hyperthreading sure is a treat with hyperthreading-enabled games. But hey, you could always dial it down to a 6600k and have some more money to spend on new peripherals or sound systems perhaps? Hehe

Also, why not get the Noctua NH-U14S?

i5 4670k | Noctua NH0-U12S | Asus Z97M Plus | Kingston HyperX Fury 8gb | Palit GTX 980 Ti Super Jetstream 6G | Samsung 850 EVO 250gb

WD Caviar Blue 1tb | Seasonic M12II 850W | Fractal Design Define R5 | Dell U3014 1600p 30" 60Hz

Corsair K65 | Razer Orochi | Bose QuietComfort 15 | Creative SBS A350 2.1

Switch out the V300 for a 850 Evo but beyond that I can't really think of anything that needs to be changed.

Definatly Overkill. Especially on that CPU cooler...

Dark rock pro 3 is so sexy though and so worth it.

Link to that PSU? There are two PSUs like that from EVGA, one is good, one is meh

Replace the SSD with another brand (V300 is a lottery SSD, you're likely to get a bad one) and the PSU with a 650w of the same quality.

You don't need 750w for a single GPU.

650w will be comfortable with heavy overclocks on both the 980ti and 6700k.

Like others said, switch out the SSD for a better one. Like the 850 Evo.

Also, the PSU. Either get a 850W so you can SLI 980 Ti in the future, or decide you'll never SLI and get a 650W and save some money.

Where's the bit where you overkill yourself, or are you going to build the PC, get crushed to death by it, drink poison, burn yourself then fatally die?

Change SSD to anything else and you're fine. If you don't plan to SLI in the future a 550W PSU would be fine.

I have changed some things and removed the Ultrawide. I think ill buy that some time after the pc.

I will. :)

Apparently Corsair RM series uses sub par components. Switch to either Corsair RM850X or EVGA 850 G2. Here's a thread listing out all the PSU and their "tier". With your budget, you want a "tier one" PSU.

70€?!? Hrm, well, I would up the 980 Ti to a Gigabyte GV-N98TG1 GAMING-6GD. Difference being the chip is binned better. Boost clock of the Windforce 3 (The one you chose) is 1190MHz. The GV-N98TG1's boost clock is 1291. It costs 5.7% more but performs 8.5% better and that's without considering overclocking. Chances are high the GV-N98TG1 can overclock pass 1450 Mhz while the Windforce 3 will probably be stuck around 1300 Mhz. So yea, I recommend getting the GV-N98TG1 instead since you got the cash.

Also, this is a personal thing, I prefer air cooling over AIO water coolers. Reason being AIO has more chance of failure and annoyance. They can leak causing damage to other components or the pump can die meaning you'll have to get an RMA. Even if everything works fine it's possible to get a unit with pump noise since most AIO's uses cheap pumps. They can get annoying at idle when your system fans are quieter than the pump.

With air cooling, they perform just as well, are quieter overall, and have no risk of failure. It's a hunk of metal, doesn't break. If you don't mind aesthetics, the NH-D15 is a great choice. Very quiet and performs fantastic. If you do care about aesthetics, the Dark Rock Pro 3 is another solid choice. I think it's ever so slightly quieter than the NH-D15 but performs ever so slightly worse than the NH-D15 on load. Both of these cooler are cheaper than the H100i lol.

Feel free to ask me any more questions! And I'd also be very interested in seeing a build log!

  • 3 weeks later...

Okay. A little update

I edited the post with some new specs i míght go with.

I am a little bit concerned about if the CPU-cooler might be blocking the ram, i saw some people on amazon ask this.

I don't think im going to buy a ultrawide monitor, maybe a 144hz 1440p monitor.

A the moment i think im going to have around 1700£. I will use around 1500£ on pc, 70£ on games and then save the 130£ up to buy a new monitor. :)
