Good Linux Distro for beginner programming?

Go to solution Solved by Nineshadow,

Your ubuntu derivative of choice or Arch.

I've decided to use my old dell laptop as a secondary machine pretty much dedicated to introductory programming (c++) and learning linux (two birds one stone). I've looked at Elementary OS and archlinux as good distros for c++ with programs like code blocks. But since I could count the number of hours I have with previous linux distros (ubuntu) on one hand I figured I should get a second opinion.

try manjaro

as a manjaro user, the latest install disks are more than disappointing...

i still use my disk from 2014 and just work around its outdatedness to avoid having to bother with figuring out why ther newer disks refuse to do anything useful...

Arch.

I'll second that. Plus it has some great support openly available.
