You should not have gotten 16GB of ram, your FX will probably bottleneck your R9 290 (in gaming) and do you have a HDD?

I use a lot of chrome tabs :P so I wanted a bunch of ram, The HDD will come at a later point. the reason for the fx 6300 was it was super cheap still New in Box on craigslist

Plus video editing will benefit from the extra ram in time.

Good price for the FX chip. Plus you had really no other option. An i3 is going to be bad, as most games take advantage of 4 or more cores, like farcry 4 which will not run without 4 or more cores. And i3's kind of suck at multicore. The FX chip was his best bet.

and the reason for the 290 was it was less than a new r9 380, and since its overpowered, I figured I would rather have more power for the same price.

Your build seems good. Congrats. You will be part of the PCMasterRace.

That is not a great price for a FX 6300, you can get them for that cheap on special.

I didn't say the FX was bad, I said it "[it] will probably bottleneck your R9 290 (in gaming)"

An i3 4160 can run FC4, so I don't know what you are reading.

An FX is fine for his workload, but not recommended for a PC that is only used for gaming.

At launch it didn't, my bad.

At launch* it had a bug where it straight up didn't work with anything that wasn't a quad core or more (core wise) even with HT.

I don't really know, but most i3's perform the same or slightly better than the FX 6300.

And I have never seen an FX 6300 below 90 bucks, and not under 70. You must score lucky.

No, it can't run on 2 Core, 2 thread CPUs, but it can run on a 2 Cores and 4 Threads CPUs such as an i3 4160

well, someone on craigslist was getting rid of a i5 3570k and board for $75 combined, but by the time I contacted him, he had already sold it.

Wow. I feels sorry for you

That is a shame.

It is. It really is.

Wasn't only allow to play on 4 cores/4 threads at launch? Or couldn't it just run on dual cores w/out ht? plz confirm this.

I thought I had some money... Oh wait... I spent it all ;(

That is a shame.

Yeah, I thought so, I was actually supposed to meet the same person today to buy a coolermaster v8 GTS for 20 bucks, and when I showed up and waited around for 20 minutes, no one showed up. so it could have been a scam, but he responded to my emails and everything, so I was doubting it. I may still try and get the cooler if they still have it.
