Hey,

I am looking to get a new/second card in the next few months. I currently have a 980 Strix it is great and thinking about getting a second. But I am wondering if it would better to invest a 980 Ti.

It would only be one or the other. So anyone's opinion is appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Sparcut.

980ti.

Less power draw, less heat output, less performance, but also more performance in game that don't support SLI, and future ability to upgrade to 980ti sli.

Get a 980 Ti

He already owns one. Buying another would be a better option.

I normally say 1 over 2, but 2 980s will destroy a ti if you can cope with the temps and supply the power

1080p? 970 or 390X. 1440p? 980TI.

1080p but want to max every game on the planet? SLI 980TI.

No he owns a 980, he should upgrade to a 980 Ti.

Only 1080p but I will be using it mainly for arma 3, which I can run ok at the moment, but an extra bit of beef would be awesome.

I would personally get the 980ti, because it is my dream card. Sli does not give you the best performance, so I would get a 980ti, sell the 980 and if your heart is really set on using sli then save some cash and, using the money of the 980, buy another 980ti for a "crapton" of performance.

If you have the money to spend, go for it. Although, keep in mind that lots of these games are more CPU intensive (Arma III included!) and you could probably just go 390/970 and use the saved cash for a better CPU. I suppose that's more viable for new builds, though.

Lots of people easily confuse games with graphics power alone - your CPU still has to manage the physics, you know!  :P

Second 980...

     Pros: Outperforms 980ti, less expensive.

Cons: Inconsistent performance due to poor optimization, stuttering, end of upgrade path.

980ti...

Pros: Better performance than your single current 980, no SLI issues, open upgrade path.

Cons: More expensive than a second 980, less powerful than two 980's.

So, basically, disregarding the issues that come with SLI, it comes down to whether you want to get the most performance out of a single purchase or to leave your options open for more potential performance later.

I'd tell you what I would do, but chances are that what I want isn't what you want.

EDIT: I just looked at your system specs, and while this won't affect game performance, your system will feel considerably faster in use if you upgrade to an SSD rather than buying a new GPU.

"Do as I say, not as I do."

-Because you actually care if it makes sense.

Yes, I have added 2 SDDs since, but forgot to add to my specs. I'll put them in now :).

Also thanks for your advice on the GPUs!
