For a 2.5" SSD you use the same SATA connector as normal 3.5" or 2.5" Mechanical Hard Drives uses.

You just need a sata port on your board, and you use a sata data cable (very common, same is used for the HDD)

But to take advantage of the SSD, you want at least SATA 2/SATA 3

Yes, you are required to have someway of powering the SSD (SATA Power Cable) and a way of access the date (SATA Data Cable).

Is there an ssd requirement? Like for the motherboard?

And what cable do you use

I have no clue about ssd

So long as you have a SATA port you're good to go but make sure you have SATA-III so you can achieve 500MB/s read and writes.

Depends on what type of SSD you are using.

This is a example of a SATA SSD:

This is a example of a M.2 SSD:

And this is a PCI express SSD:

If you have a SATA ssd just use a cable you use for 3.5" mechanical HDD's

If you have a PCI express SSD insert it into a empty PCI express slot and screw it in.

If you are using an M.2 ssd make sure your motherboard surports M.2 and also make sure it has the same connector the motherboard uses.

Hope this helps.

Toshiba 1TB HDD
Asrock H97 Pro4 motherboard

just use the SATA ports on the motherboards, preferably SATA 3 :)
