Need i7 shopping help

From this I may be able to squeeze an i7 in without going too over budget.

 

I'm looking at an i7 4790k 

But I know nothing of cpus just gpus

What should I look at?

Since you are looking at gaming you will probably want to go for the highest mhz core clock rather than the amount of cores for more work based tasks. The 4790k is the highest at the consumer level and would be great.

well i have 440 now and i'm going to sell my cpu and gpu for this upgrade so at least add maybe 250 or 300 (970 and i5 4460)

I have the 4790k and with a decent cooler ive gotten a 4.6 ghz 24/7 use stable for 3 months

What games? You can't overclock on your current motherboard.

I have one swell they're great chips, can get mine unto 4.9 but I'm on water. I normally recommend getting the latest platform, however I don't think you could afford Skylake i7 and a new GPU on this budget, so 4790k using the ram you already have maybe the best way to go

The 4790k is a great cpu for both gaming and editing so I highly recommend that.
