Hi. It's a new year with a new graphics card so i was thinking about increasing my resolution.

 

 

I'm wondering, is the amount of pixels you have directly tied to your overall fps? For example, i have a standard 1080 monitor now with a pixel count of 2073600. 

I want to get an ultra wide 1440 monitor which should have a pixel count of 4953600. Thats 2.38 times the pixels.

 

So if i have 100 fps, will i get only 42 if i upgrade to a ultra wide 1440? Or is the fps not quite lowered in sync with the fps increase?

I have a Nvidia card. Is there a similar program for that?

I haven't used GeForce Experience in a while, so I don't remember how to enable it.

Seriously though, Nvidia has one too. So if you have a 1080p monitor you can render the game in 1440. It looks better and let's you see what kind of fps your GPU can provide.

You will lose 35-40% fps. Downsampling is not the same like a true Resolution.

Okay. So rendering the game in 1440 or 4k will have the same fps hit as running it native on a better monitor? 

EDIT- I just read the question again, sorry. That's correct. If you do that, you'll get a good understanding of how it'll run on a monitor of that resolution.

Okay. So i just maxed Witcher 3 in simulated 4K and got around 40 frames. So i should expect alot more than that from a 3440 x 1440 monitor then.

Again, downsampling give you not the same Results like true 4k or 1440p.

This is true, too. Again, I said expect similar results, not exactly the same results. It'll be different.

This is true, too. Again, I said expect similar results, not exactly the same results. It'll be different.

 

I just finished my project that has been going since summer. Basically i7-4790k and msi gtx 980 ti. Put a slight overclock on the gpu (havent gotten into the idea of raising voltage yet) to achive 40 instead of 37 fps.

So if simulated 4k goes from 100-120 fps down to about 40, how much should true 4k hit the fps if you can estimate.

Depends on your Hardware. 30-35fps in 4k ULTRA are realistic. With a Tweak here and there you can reach the 40. But 4k is not worth the huge fps loss. 1440p is the superior solution.

Those are some nice specs. I don't know about The Witcher 3, but a 980ti can handle some games at 4K over 30 FPS. If you want 60 FPS, I think 1440p is the way to go.

Okay then that sounds reasonable. Yeah im definitely going ultra wide 1440. Wanted to go 3 monitors for a long time but UW1440 seems like a much better option. I only simulated 4k because it should be much more taxing than UW1440 and i couldnt simulate an ultra wide aspect ratio.

Thanks. The reason it took so long was because i had to sell my old pc in order to afford the gpu :P In hindsight maybe i should've gone with X99 but its no big deal i think.
