Hey my pc hasn't crashed in a while but it just did while I was gaming. I have viewed the mini dump file but was wondering if any of you could help me find out what could have caused it? I have run a mem test and all is fine. I also ran Intel diag tool and all fine there too. Don't understand where it says win 8 driver fault as I am running win 10...

Any help appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Here is the mini dump:

Hey sorry about that. Yes CPU is overclocked @ 4.3 Ghz on turbo though it was overclocked by the company I bought the custom PC from.

· OS - Windows 10

· x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64

· What OS was originally installed on the system? Win 8.1

· Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from a retailer)? Full Retail

· Age of system (hardware) All Less than 2 1/2 years

· Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? Couple of months old

· CPU model: Intel 4770

· Video Card model: GTX 980ti

· MotherBoard - Asus Sabertooth Z87

· Power Supply - brand & wattage: EVGA G2 850w (only a couple of months old)

Is this just 1 BSOD, or have you had a few happen so far?

Do you mind running the utility in the BSOD posting instructions thread and posting the dump files for me to look at? The WHEA error you posted in the original post basically tells me nothing useful. I need the dump files to run them through WinDBG (The Windows Debugger).

It is the second I think. It is hard to answer this question as I had this happen before, viewed the mini dump which had the same issue listed but then I had a load of other crashes which turned out to be caused by an unreliable PSU. I haven't had a crash like this one in a few months.

I've attached the report.

That's not the dump files. The utility should have created an zip file in your documents folder.

Alternatively, you can copy the dump files from "%SystemRoot%\Minidump"

Do you happen to have Asus utilities installed? if so, go ahead and remove them.

Also, run an system file check using the instructions here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2895-sfc-command-run-windows-10-a.html

No Asus Utilities installed and no problems were found running that check.

Hi my friend,

Did you happen to see anything in the files I gave you? I have had my computer crash again twice while playing a different game this time; Starbound. Weirdly the last two times it crashed, I was at the same part of the map in the game. Does that maybe help you to help me? :)

Woops. Completely missed the notification from you earlier. Regarding the crash, are your GPU drivers up to date? I find it strange that the game is crashing in a particular spot which then triggers an BSOD.

Is it only in that game? If you lookup "Starbound Windows 10 crash" in google, I see a lot of people having similar issues, maybe it is just  specific to that game for now?

So..

I see you know how to use WinDbg. If you run !analyze -show you can see the what caused the minidump (fault location and error). In this case its below..

1: kd> !analyze -showWHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)A fatal hardware error has occurred. Parameter 1 identifies the type of errorsource that reported the error. Parameter 2 holds the address of theWHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure that describes the error conditon.Arguments:Arg1: 0000000000000000, Machine Check ExceptionArg2: ffffe000ef8fe028, Address of the WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure.Arg3: 00000000bf800000, High order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.Arg4: 0000000000000124, Low order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.

There are two things that could be causing it..

1) Your overclock is causing the issue, which I find weird for a single application but is possible.

2) Uninstall your chipset drivers and reinstall them (which I think is the case). Make sure you get the right version of windows and the bit level (which from the debug I see that it is 64 bit system)

Hey, no problem, thanks for getting back to me. This has happened on Robocraft also a couple of days ago, so I don't think it's game specific unfortunately.. All GPU drivers are up to date.

Hi,

right I am checking the chipset drivers now first as I would like to keep the overclock if possible, as I have not overclocked myself before so would not know how to re-overclock if I removed this one. I'll keep you posted. Thank you.

I have tried to install the latest chipset driver but I apparently have a newer version already installed.

Is your GPU overclocked? If it is, mind turning down the clocks an bit. Also, can you post the new set of dump files since your PC BSODagain.

It's a MSI 980ti OC edition so it has a factory overclock but that is all.

Anything different in those files?

dxgmms2.sys is causing issues. It is an GPU driver issue. Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) from here: http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/?q=display-driver-uninstaller-ddu-

and uninstall your current GPU driver, then reinstall the latest Nvidia GPU driver.

I am sad. I really hoped that your suggestion would fix my issue, but I just played Starbound and about 10 mins into playing I started to get frame drops then my PC crashed again.

Unstable overclock then. First start by running MemTest86+

Follow the instructions here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/14201-memtest86-test-ram.html

Leave it running overnight or approximately 12 hrs.

If you get memory issues, then you need to dial down your CPU overclock and possibly your RAM frequency (if its overclocked).

Hi,

Ran the test for 17 hours! And it just managed to do the 8 passes in that time. I think I got a clean bill of health though, right?

Now what? :)

Firefox keeps crashing now while watching videos. What's going on??? :( !

Can you run FurMark? http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

If it keeps crashing, then its most likely a bad GPU and you'll need to RMA it.

But before you RMA, try to repair install Windows to rule out an issue with the upgrade from WIndows 8.1 to Windows 10: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html
