Hello all, starting this afternoon i have been having a issue with a secondary PC of mine that i use for a file server. I keep this PC in another room and if i need to i connect to it via windows remote desktop from my main PC and this has worked pretty good in the past. This morning though right before i went to work the power went off at my house so the PC in question was turned off as a result. After i got home from work i turned the PC back on and then attempted to connect to it with windows remote desktop and i got a black screen. I thought maybe that was a one time thing so i attempted to connect serveral times and each time it would connect and the screen would be black. I also tried restarting the PC a couple times but to no avail.

I then went and got a old monitor to plug into it to see if i could make any progress that way. When i would turn the PC on it would either be stuck on the windows "logging in" screen or would go to the desktop and the screen would go blank. Another odd thing is even though i basically have no control over the system itself due to this issue the computer is still "on" and i can still access all the files on it from my main PC.

Any idea what this issue is? I assume it is in some way connected to the power loss this morning.

Run an Windows 10 refresh following the instructions here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4090-refresh-windows-10-a.html#option1

And power loss can cause corruption if there was any data or system files being accessed at the time it happened.

Maybe when the computer came back on it tried to install updates that are causing issues. If you get to the login screen, click the power icon then hold shift while clicking restart. This will give you a screen where you should be able to get into safe mode and see if that's the case.

I did this and that fixed it. Though it was really frustrating having to set everything back up again. Thanks for the help.
