Oh My Projectors.. What the What..

I am doing TONS of research in a field that has always been rather confusing to me.  I am looking to find a projector for use at well lit events.  It should adhere to these specs:

  • Mostly decent contrast (400:1 simply wont cut it)
  • bright.. there doesn't seem to be a standard for listing lumens*.
  • I'd like 1080p though it seems WXGA is the most common.
  • Ultra Short Throw
  • Cost to quality (Sony's $50,000 UST is .. uh.. too pricey lol)
  • Lazors are always fun.

So through my research I've determined the above is mostly what I'm looking for but I simply don't feel as if I know enough about any of it to know what I'm really looking for in the first place.  The LED / Lampless projectors have a massive lifespan which is great bc the projector will be used at tons of events.  I found one UST that had a contrast ratio of 150,000:1 but was only 1000 lumens. However, .. this could be color lumens not ANSI lumens which means that it could be 3250 ANSI? (Math based off another projector that said it was 800 lumens but (2500 ANSI). & That is another thing. *Lumens.  There are color lumens, white lumens, ANSI lumens.. and I think I saw something about another kind too.

Anyone have a good explanation of projectors, what I should REALLY be looking for, or know of the perfect event projector?

Also, Linus should review projectors.

i have a Benq W1070 its  a1080p, 2200 ansi lumen and a dlc 3D projektor for about 500 bucks. my lamp worked about 5000 hours and a replacement lamp costs about 70euros . the 3D is awsome and you can use a 4k downsampling with 60hz refreshrate. i love it and wont play any games under a 100inch screen size anymore :)
