SSDs work pretty much just as any other storage drive. It should work perfectly fine as long as you have a SATA port.
There are older SSDs that were SATAII (3Gb/s) but this isn't your only factor for the speed. If you put a SATAIII (6Gb/s) drive on a SATAII (3Gb/s) port the maximum speed would be limited by the slower component (in this case the SATAII (3Gb/s) port would limit the speed to 300MB/s).
