Static external IP Address

Go to solution Solved by Master Disaster,

Okay thanks, I'm with Plusnet and I think I read somewhere that they offer fixed IPs so this should be handy.

Dynamic DNS was designed exactly for this scenario, it's free and works great.

It will convert the 81.xxx.xxx.xxx to something like jackpot.dyndns.org and even if your ip changes the app keeps your domain linked to the ip.

I think I need to get an external static IP address for my TeamSpeak 3 server I am going to set up.

I have checked my external IP address for the last few days and it has changed.

As far as I know this means people may not be able to connect to my server because my IP will change.

Is there any way round this (getting a domain or something), or do I have to request a static IP address from my ISP (Plusnet)?

Many thanks

That'll give you a free domain and an app to install on your PC (or some routers support it natively) to keep your ip and domain synched up.

Most residential connections have a dynamic IP that can change. You will have to ask your ISP. Some ISP's will charge you extra, others wont give them to you.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

What will this allow me to do?
