mobo upgrade woes (windows won't start)

Nymmie

I just upgraded from an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 + i7 920 to an Asus z87-Deluxe + 4770k but have come across 1 problem.

I am unable to boot into windows successfully... I get to the startup repair/start normally choice. I can get into the startup repair fine but it doesn't see any windows installations at all and I can't do a system restore as a result.

If I select start normally I see the starting animation for about 2 seconds and the a very quick bsod.

anyone have any insight on how to solve this?

EDIT: I just realized I should have put this in the Troubleshooting forum. :-(

Re-install Windows. That is the only solution.

You could try putting in the Windows Disk and doing a system repair, might be better just to back-up data and do a re-install, though.

If you switched the motherboard and CPU without doing a clean install then you will have to.

hrmmm... a backup and reinstall was what I was hoping to avoid...

Windows repair with install dvd might work but thats big jump between chipsets. When changing mobo its always easiers to do it the hard way.
