980ti - MSI vs EVGA for my white build!

BJH

Hello everyone, I have slowly been gathering the parts for my new PC build that I will be doing very soon, and wanted opinions on which 980ti you think will look more at home inside of my build.  ;)

I have got the 2015 version of the white NZXT H440 that everyone seems to use for builds nowadays (and I see why!), and will be getting the MSI Krait motherboard for my skylake i7-6700k CPU.

I want to stick to the white and black theme, and was wondering which you think will look better, the MSI 980ti Armor 2x, or the EVGA 980ti SC. The MSI card will of course match the whole white and black scheme, as it is from MSI's krait line of components, but the EVGA card comes with a backplate, and also has white LED's that show the name of the card, which is right by the window of the case and look awesome in my opinion. If you could let me know which one you think would fit best in my build in the comments, that would be great!  :D

I would make the links integrated into the text, but I can't work out how to do that on here, maybe I am being stupid, haha!

And here is what the LED's on the EVGA card look like: http://i.imgur.com/YPaPcB8.jpg

I was also looking at getting a custom white backplate, so I guess I maybe could get a backplate for the MSI card after all. But the white backplate on the EVGA card with white LED's might look nice? MORE DECISIONS!  :(

EVGA because backplate. I'm not sure why the MSI card doesn't have one.

Me either to be honest... as i said though, I COULD get the MSI plus a custom white backplate for the same price as the EVGA card... still think EVGA?

Do you think the site I linked will be ok for buying a backplate? It's acrylic not metal, so I am unsure. And are you sure you are not just saying this after buying your 970's from EVGA? ;) Your small rant gave me a good laugh reading it hahaha :)

Here is a gigabyte card that has the white and black scheme. Backplate also. Just something to look at.

Thanks for the suggestion! :)

I looked over this card before when looking for white 980ti's, but are you sure it's not silver and black? It really looks silver to me when looking closely :)

I find OCUK quite expensive, their customer support is however great.

I use Scan for the majority of my purchases and generally supplement from Watercooling.co.uk and CCL online

Haha I don't have a problem with EVGA, I went straight to them for the customer support reputation when deciding on my first 970

Not sure why you are recommending something lower-end than what he wants.

Not sure what you mean? Most specs are equal or better than whats listed.

I'm referring to the brand quality and performance. Gigabyte is at the bottom of the spectrum along with Asus. EVGA and MSI are the best quality brands for Nvidia GPUs.

Im not quite sure it looks black and white to me but that could be my eyes. Guess depends how the lighting is on it which gives it a different tone. Im sure it would look fine inside a case.

I also like Ubisoft and Origin/EA
Guess I'm just odd that way.

It's not lower end, it's still a 980ti! and higher clock speed i think! This is the link for the custom backplate, forgot to include it, my bad! http://custom-acrylics-uk.myshopify.com/collections/evga/products/backplate-kit-for-evga-gtx-970-in-black-white

Gigabyte doesn't have the customer support of EVGA or MSI but their build quality is just as good as the others and as for performance everything really comes down to the silicon lottery... ex say hello to my 1562mhz 980ti from Gigabyte, that doesnt sound like bad performance... because it really comes down to luck of rolling the dice to see if you get a good chip.

To OP: Performance wise any of these GPUs can out clock / outpeform each other purely due to the silicon lottery. All of their build qualities are good. MSI and EVGA typically do have better customer support but unless you get really unlucky or misuse your card you likely should never have to use the customer support.

Also the G1 gaming is White with Silver stripes in the white border, it does have 7 LED color options (I use red) but the white seems to be slightly off color compared to pure white (just a consideration if you are really stuck on the all white theme and something I noticed with my card I can't speak for every G1 Gaming). Other than that I would add the  GALAX HoF (all white card, even the PCB) would work well with your build and offers just as good performance as any other aftermarket 980ti.

The Gigabyte G1 line has been fantastic on the recent Nvidia cards and has stellar reviews, not sure what you're on about. Asus's strix line isn't bad either, runs a bit hot but that's no reason to outright hate that series of card. Not to mention their recent drop of the Matrix, which is a fantastic card but doesn't fit OP's price range or color scheme most likely.

The EVGA 980 TI are really nothing special outside of the KP and Hybrid, the rest run pretty loud & hot from reviews I've read, and friends that own them.

The only real thing they have going for them is good support, the G1 Gaming runs quieter and cooler than the ACX models, and overclocks better.

It runs 6c cooler while being 3db quieter.
