Can't decide between two Potential Builds, Please Help!

X99 is tremendously better value for money vs Z170 i7 config. Also, you have a higher amount of PCI Lanes with X99 (28) compared to Z170 (20), which means a greater upgrade path down the road.

Hey, I'm trying to decide between a x99 Build and a z170 Build.

x99 Build:
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/perksy69/saved/#view=XXvMnQ

z170 Build:

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/perksy69/saved/#view=KFG8TW

(*note the MoBo will be the Asus Maximus VIII Hero Alpha not the Standard Hero)

I plan to use the system for gaming with the potential to stream and get into content creation in the future. I will be dropping in another 980 Ti for SLI in the near future and after that turn the system into a custom liquid cooled rig. I'm unsure whether to go with the x99 or z170 because I'm unsure what will fulfil my needs better and will be more future proof.

I like the x99 because it has more cores so if I get into content creation will be able to render better, but I like the fact the z170 has USB 3.1 connectors and this build will fit my colour scheme better.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are 100% sure you are going to do content creation I would go with the X99 System

x99 will be better for you because it has more cores for editing and streaming and it is more future RESISTANT (there is no such thing as future proof). Oh and you can also buy USB 3.1 expansion cards for your motherboard if you choose to go x99.

Ahh thanks for the reply, I was leaning towards x99 so this has pretty much made my mind up.

X99 because it's cool. Also, you don't need a 1000W PSU unless you're going to SLI in the future in which case a 850W PSU would be fine.

I plan to go two way SLI in the very near future and perhaps 3 way in the future. Plus I already own this power supply.

Also i plan on running to 850 Evo SSD's in RAID 0. I was also considering buying a 850 PRO to store the operating system on. Is it worth it or should I just install the operating system on the RAID 0 SSD's?

Just saying, SLI/xfire starts to turn bad once you go above two way as in the scaling doesn't work as well therefore it's kinda pointless to go above two way. As for the SSD why not get an M.2 SM951 or something? :D

True, thats why I'm not sold on the tri config.. I was going to get a 950 Pro, but the x99 Deluxe motherboard mounts them vertically off the board which looks really bad in my opinion so was looking for another option, without spending copious amounts to get a PCIE SSD

Oh, you mean with the PCIe M.2 card? Oh wait nvm yeah that does look... crap.
