Should look into 2.1 system then if you head explosions. Having a dedicated subwoofer will bring you good bass.

 

Then again, you'd have to have a nice place to put it and have nothing in the way. 

 

I know that the Corsair speakers have big bass. 8" sub I think.

SP2500's do look like they could do the job, they're slightly over budget though. Will keep looking but keep them in mind :)

 

Sorry, didn't include the fact that you're situated in the UK. How about the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1? Pretty old though.

Go for the Logitech z623. They're £120, and they sound great. Johny Guru said that they sound the same or better than the SP2500s and are much cheaper.

Check out eBay - everytime I look on the UK site there's tons of 2.0 bookshelf speakers. Add a sub later if need be.
