Xbox now has better voice quality?

Xbox One to bring higher quality voice chat through dedicated hardware and the power of Skype

It's anti-climactic when you destroy someone in Madden, yet your victory chants are muffled by substandard voice chat. Today, Major Nelson revealed that with the Xbox One and the Xbox One Chat Headset, your taunts and condolences will be heard loud and clear by all. How? Well, the console has dedicated audio processing and the new controller's expansion port provides a fatter data pipe that allows the headset to render voices at 24 KHz PCM. According to the Major, that's three times the sample rate for rendering and a 50 percent better capture rate than Xbox 360 headsets. Combine that with Skype's refined audio codec, and you've got yourself a new gold standard for in-game chat quality. And, you can hear the difference at the source link below. Only downside is, Microsoft's still gonna make you pay extra for the privilege.

The last part is untrue. Of course you have to pay more because you have to pay for Gold Membership to be able to play online. Hopefully it's better sound quality than last-gen. Also the article he was referencing to was two months ago. How out dated is this article?

They're going to include a cheap headset with a $500+ console? Mate, if you're gonna spend that much on a console, you might as well grab a pair of Turtle Beaches or something.

I don't like the inclusion of microphones in consoles. When you have to pay money for something, a large majority of the young users will be taken out. On PC, you generally have to buy your own microphone which makes a pay-gate in order to use voice communication, so the likely hood of a younger individual annoying everyone is much less (though, still prominent in some games). I prefer the idea of making the little brats ask their parents for money and get denied because they already spent so much on his Christmas present and can't afford a $60 headset.

If the Xbox Gold is going to come with Skype, of course it needs to have better sound quality.

It'll still be a cheap headset but I think it's standard that every electronic device ships with free headphones/mic.
