I'm going to be getting a new headset and I'm not sure if I should get the original Clouds for $75, or the Cloud IIs for $100 (just under my budget). Are the Cloud II worth $25 more? Is the mic much better? Is the sound quality better? Sorry for so many questions I just want to know if the extra $25 is worth it.

Thank you!

Depends on whether you can take advantage of the 7.1 Surround sound or not, if you want to use 7.1 go with the Cloud II.

I know for a fact that my motherboard can't adequately drive my original Clouds (although my phone can).  I would need to get the Cloud IIs if I didn't have another source of amplification (because it's powered by USB not the headphone jack).  Others have said their motherboards are fine.

I had to send mine in for warranty (rolled over them with my chair, shhhhh don't tell Kingston) and when they came back they seemed smaller.  I thought maybe it was my imagination, but then I saw a comparison article of the Could II and Cloud Core, and the Cloud Core was ever so slightly smaller.  I'm thinking they replaced it with a set of Cores.  So if you have a big head the IIs might be ever so slightly better in that regard.

Supposedly the Cloud IIs have a better mic, I'm not sure that's worth the price premium by itself.

The original Clouds and Cloud IIs come with accessories that the Cores do not, such as the travel bag, airplane adapter, and velour pads.  I would rule out the Cores for that reason.

I don't plan on getting the cores because of the reasons you stated.

I don't really care to much about virtual 7.1 so it looks like I should probably get the original clouds. Thanks !

That fake 7.1 can be had on ANY of the Clouds.

(look at Razer Surround if you want that crap)

Refer to above^ The fake 7.1 can be had on the Cloud or Cloud Core, the Cloud 2 difference is quite literally ONLY the shitty usb dongle. $30 for a $5 dongle, save the money.

Good choice with the Cloud, the Cloud 2 gets ruled out here a lot due to the pointlessness of it's pricing due to a terrible usb dongle not worth a $30+ premium.
