Recently I was trying to stream to twitch Black Ops III at 720p, but I was having what seemed like frame drops and slowdowns on the OBS side, not on the game side. I can run the game at 60 fps constant with High Settings w/ Extra Texture Setting. I have a system with a i5-4460, 16gb of RAM, and a MSI R9 380. I game at 1080p. Stream at 720p. Would an upgrade to an i7-4790K and a cooler enable me to stream at 1080p? Or do I need a whole new graphics card? I tried to find a explanation, but turned up with no clear answer. Please help and thanks!

The encoding part of the streaming gets done by the CPU. You have an i5 so only 4 physical cores. An upgrade to an i7 would benefit you a lot since they have 4 physical cores who each have 2 threads.

Yea I've used it. The quality is poop unless I crank up the bitrate, but twitch only allows up to 3500.

Yea so here

I posted videos comparing QuickSync against x264. Frankly I'm better off buying a i7-4790k. 1080p is the real story.
