So I dont know much about networking...

So I currently have this stock modem thing from comcast but its been making this high pitched sound for months and I decided it was time for an upgrade. Now I dont know much about networking but I was looking to get a modem and router. Kind of on a budget so here was what I picked out:

NETGEAR N750 Dual Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (WNDR4300) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008HO9DK4/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_QjJEwb55N1J0T

ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - Retail Packaging - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YUU5628/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_hkJEwb0TYDBHT

So now are these two compatible with eachother and my comcast isp? I know its probably a pretty dumb question but just thought I'd ask before purchasing. Feel free to leave any suggestions.

These are compatible, however be warned the modem will only have 1 ethernet port and that is used by the router.

You really shouldn't have any problems but call your provider and make sure your modem will work.

Its always good to have a strong router, but if you are truly on a budget then the one you have now should be fine.

The modem description specifically states that it's compatible with Comcast. And they're obviously compatible with each other.

Since you say you're on a budget, I'm not sure why you'd want the router though. Do you not have one already?

Woops you're right on that one, didnt look closely at the package to see that. This is what I have

But like I said, its making a high pitched noise very often so instead of calling my isp to get a replacement, I thought Id just get my own

Any other modems that you can recommend around the same price range with more than one ethernet?

Oh, didn't realize the whining modem was also your router.

Anyway, the router you linked has more than 1 ethernet port. So it's fine that the modem has only 1.

Post irrelevent info in another section please, there is already enough false or misleading info here. The modem has no firewall or dhcp server, so it is basically just a coax to ethernet adapter. There should aleays be only one port on a modem. A router on the other hand, should have as many lan ports as possible, because those are the ones behind a firewall.
