Modmic (or alternative)

Hi,

I'm looking to replace my cheap headset and instead attach a mic to my Sony MDR-V6 headphones. I just happen to know the Modmic off hand, but is it the best detachable mic for the job? It's definitely a bit on the pricy side and I see cheaper alternatives. Does anyone have experience with this?

Ugh, I hated the modmic. I'd recommend a desk mic 100% :)

Any reason why? A desk mic is a bit less convenient for me since I travel quite a bit. Are there any (cheap) desk mics you'd recommend?

Always fell off as the magnet was weak, and the second cable was a total pain and got caught a lot
