Plex media server lagging on local network.

Hi!

I have some videos and some music that i want to stream from my PC to my ps4. I used to use the built in homesharing/workgroup in windows to stream my media. That worked well, no lagging and good quality. My brother also used that workgroup to watch my movies on his mac.

I recently reformatted my desktop PC, and then i wasn't able to get the workgroup up and running again. So i tried Plex media server, but the problem no is that I can't always even start the movie. When i'm able to start it, it's buffering each 3 seconds, so it's basically unwatchable.

I'm wondering what i might have done wrong and how to fix it. Maybe you guys have some alternatives to plex and maybe a way to fix the workgroup.

Well, Sir. I'm no expert on plex at all... I've never actually used it. Have you considered giving Universal Media Server a go?

the solution is not to use plex.

 

seriously, plex just running on a box generates more errors in my router log than a virus infested machine does policy violations...

i wasn't able to getting UMS to work with my ps4, but i did get my old method to work. It's not optimal, but at least it works.
