Motherboard doesn't detect GPU

Hi.

I have some problems with my graphics cards.

I recently bought a computer from my brother and we found out that the old motherboard was dead. I bought a new one (ASUS Z97-A) and everything is working (!), except the GPUs. The computer works fine without any of the PCIe cards connected. I want to split this into the two cards, because they differ.

Card #1:

This doesn't work at all. When I connect it to one of the 3.0 x16 slots, I get one long beep and three short beeps, which when I look at the beep table is a problem with my memory. I don't understand why my GPU should trigger this error. It beeps in this order when the LED (reffered to as the VGA_LED in the MOBA manual can be found here: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97A/HelpDesk_Manual/) is lit. I don't understand why this should beep, but it seems that something is wrong with the video card itself.

Card #2:

This cards kind of works. When I first connected it to the PCIe port, it seemed like it didn't get all the way into the port, and I think I was right. The card wasn't detected in UEFI BIOS Utility and the fan was running on 100 % all the time. However, I decided to cut off the long metal bit, because I think it was butting against the case. After that the card was detected, but as '0x' instead of 'Not Present). The fan didn't start at once at 100 %, more like 5 %, but after POSTing the card started running at 100 % again. This can't be good. At least the motherboard detects something. However, Windows doesn't detect it, GPU-Z doesn't detect it. I've attached some screenshots.

General:

The cards runs very differently, and I think card #1 is dead. The fan is turning, but it seems like my motherboard doesn't like it at all. Both cards' fans runs at least.

I really don't know what's wrong.

I've tried clearing CMOS after installing a card.

I also updated the BIOS to the latest version. It still doesn't work.

Here are my specs:

Try reinstalling drivers. That's the first thing I always do.

The graphics drivers?

When I installed the graphics drivers, it failed. I tried to install this driver: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%2010%20-%2064 called 'Radeon Software'. Is this even the correct driver?

At the driver page I chose:

Step 1: Desktop Graphics

Step 2: R9 Series

Step 3: Radeon R9 2xx Series

Step 4: Windows 10 - 64 bit

EDIT #1:

I tried to install the Crimson thingy again and it succeeded, but it only installs AMD Installation Center. I get no Catalyst Center, nothing! It looks like since it doesn't detect any graphics card, it doesn't install any drivers.

Not yet. They were tested right before I got the parts and they worked. That was with a different motherboard. When I got them, I blew some air theough them to clean them for dust, but it seems like only this broke them! Could that actually happen? At saturday I will test the cards in a different computer and see if they work.

What were tou thinking about, @TheAbel?

Usually with these kind of problems its a process of elimination, so if the card work in a other system problem could be a defective mobo or even a bad PSU. swap out parts untill you find the problem.

Yesterday we tested the graphics cards in another system and they had the same errors. I'm gonna RMA it for replacement / warranty. The fact that both cards were malfunctioning was really surprising. When the old motherboard shorted, may that've damage the graphics cards?
