So my friend is considering updating his pee build system which has an i7 and 24 go of ram. What psu would work the best if room is semi limited? Would just a regular atx psu just work

Unless you're planning to build in a small form factor case, you'll most likely be using a standard ATX Power Supply. If you can give us the make and model of the case in question, we can verify this for you.

But a regular ATX PSU would probably work just fine.

Did some measuring and it's an atx case. Another issue is that the only place for the air to go is where the power supply is mounted. Another way of saying that is the back of the case.

Most PSUs are mounted at the back of the case. Back in the day, most of the ventilation was done via the PSU, not so much nowadays. You just want to make sure that if the PSU is mounted at the top, the orientation of the PSU is not fan side up. If the PSU is mounted on the bottom, you want to make sure that the fan is not facing down unless the case has holes for PSU ventilation.
