Get a modmic, if you are going to use a desk mic a snowball would be better

This ^ why wasn't the snowball an option in the first place

He might not be using it as a desk mic, I just assumed he was and suggested the snowball

I presumed it was a desk mic since the first choice had a stand

Imo something like blue snowball is waste of money unless you will be doing casting or any other serious recording. I got 15€ deskmic and quality is enough for gaming. Mod mic isn't so great in sound quality either. It can be that Linus had something wrong with his setup. but sounded pretty same as my mic, maybe bit worse even.

The c01ucw is nothing more than a mic, the other 2 have headphone out or mute functions.

if you'll use the other functions get one of the other mics, but I'd probably go with the c01ucw as more focus was put on quality rather than features.

Will work for electronic components and parts

Personally I have this one http://www.amazon.com/Q1U-USB-Dynamic-Recording-Mic/dp/B000EZMYRS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381851079&sr=8-1&keywords=samson+Q1U I would like a more expensive one, but lets face it - I won't have any use for anything better than the Q1U

I've had serious issues with the Blue Snowball volume running on WIndows 7. Apparently there are some compatibility issues that make your max volume much lower than what it should be.
