GTX 960 isn't all that great compared to AMD's offering so its out of the question

And to answer your question, a 380X offers not quite enough performance over a 380 to be "worth it", but if you have the money for it, go for it. However, you could also opt for a cheaper 390 for less than 300 USD if you can stretch your budget.

Add little more to your budget.

 

As @The Official Czex said, get a R9 390.
