Hi guys new to the forums. I'm looking to upgrade my old PC from probably 4-5 years ago, can't even remember how long I've had it. The PC is still good, I'm able to game on mostly just League of Legends and CS:GO, and also Autocad 2015 too for work and studies. Although everything works I think it would be worth while to spend some cash and upgrade some components.

Budget is tight so I'm looking to go step by step and probably try and grab some Christmas discounts. (Looking at spending under $500 AUD)

Current PC:

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9550

4GB RAM

Geforce 9800 GT 1GB GDDR3

150GB HDD

120GB HDD

180GB HDD

I guess I'm just looking for things to upgrade that would improve speed. Can't stand waiting 5mins to load up Autocad or have the computer lag when I'm doing basic things like alt-tab or trying to open control panel or things like that.

Much appreciated, thanks!

Well you probably want an SSD and like a new GPU

and then save up for a CPU upgrade, or maybe just replace your PSU, or maybe buy more RAM

Doesn't worth upgrade , keep the money for a new PC or get a 240GB SSD for future use with a new PC.

That what I would do

CPU: i7-4790k || Mobo: MSI Gaming 5 Z97|| Ram: GSkill Ripjaws X 16GB (2x8GB) || GPU: Sapphire Tri-X r9 390x || Case: CoolerMaster cm storm scout 2 || Storage: samsung evo 850 500GB , WD Black 3TB , WD Green 2TB , WD 1TB external (backups/Media) , Seagate 1TB external (Backups) || PSU: Seasonic X-Series 750W 80+ GOLD || Displays: Samsung C24FG70 , Dell U2414H || Keyboard: Logitech G810 || Mouse: Logitech G502 proteus spectrum || Headset: Logitech G633

Well if you are hardcore for CAD, i would recommend getting a new computer at this point.

However if you insist on upgrading then here is what i can offer:

Get a solid state drive, preferably the Samsung 850 pro 240gb ones.

Get a new motherboard and CPU to maximise your CAD speeds with that budget.

So basically what I have atm is just too outdated, and I'd be better off saving the money to get a new machine?

Your CPU isn't the worst thing, but you mostly just need an SSD and a new GPU, unless you really need a faster CPU
