I manage a quite complicated twitch channel. This is for a very large csgo gaming community of over 4000 members, so stream quality is key. What I have currently is a proxmox virtualization server running an rtmp relay server. The idea of the twitch channel is that the community can broadcast. Users apply for broadcaster and I add them to the firewall of the rtmp server. The current setup goes like this: Broadcaster>RTMP Relay> OBS pulling rtmp stream from relay server and adding stuff like overlays and logos>RTMP relay server>Twitch. My question is: what would be the best option to replace the OBS machine's aging q6600? My current choice is this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/D6G7yc Anyone have any thoughts? The server has to pull multiple rtmp streams and upload 1080p60 streams to the rtmp relay. I intend to use the i5's quicksync to improve performance. I have a spare 5770 on hand, but I would rather not use it for power consumption reasons. Feel free to get into the details.

Thanks, tt2468 (Kyle)

Quicksync looks much worse than almost any other cpu encoder. If you wwnat to encode videos quickly for cheap consider getting something like a hp z800 with dual 6 cores off ebay for around 600-800. That will smoke any other chip and beats the 5960x in most uses.

Did I mention I have a small budget? Say about 350

Edit: In my opinion, quicksync looks pretty good. I would definitely say others look better, but quicksync cuts it for me, especially considering the minimal cpu usage.

Yep. Don't listen to him. you're good with your part list.

QuickSync requires a bit higher data rate for the same quality, but completely takes away the strain on the CPU.

I mean by that that if you encode a video at 8mbps, with QuickSync you might have to push it up to 10mbps for the same quality, though setting both to 8 will likely give an indistinguishable IQ deficit unless you zoom in.

Ah.

You should be able to run all of your current settings through the quick sync encoder without any problems. If your internet is about to improve, then the 4690k will be able to handle the upgrade in quality to accommodate the bandwidth. On top of that, with a 4690k, and a z97 board you'll be able to overclock the iGPU and CPU to gain even more performance for your twitch streams.
