The r9 290 windforce fans should keep that GPU cool enough stock assuming you have good case fans. That are manufactured to run optimally with the correct temps.

That being said, i would say that would help a lot. What case do you have this in?

Intel Core i7-6700k | 2 X Gigabyte 4GB GTX 970 Overclocked Edition | 16GB (4X4GB) DDR4 2133MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum | MasterCase Pro 5

ASUS Z170 Deluxe Motherboard | 256GB Samsung 840 Pro + Seagate 2TB Storage | Corsair Hydro H80i GT | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | Corsair HX850i

I had a really hot 290 core, and really hot vrm's, warmer than normal, the TRIPLE fan cooler would be maxed and I'm still at 90*c core temps under load with VRM's getting into the high 90's and into the 100-105*c area...

The G10 fan would keep VRM's in the 90-98*c area.

Then I bought the GELID VRM KIT, and it dropped 15*c again!!!

^GELID VRM KIT Well worth!!!

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I didn't use the tiny squares either, just the main VRM heatsink. (Still has clearance for the G10 fan)

Comes in a tiny cardboard box, and would take 3-10mins to install, depending on the person's knowledge.
