this is probably going to be the stupidest question ever

Do i need an android phone to develop for android

i have been developing games in my spare time for a while now and wanted to get into mobile development, and on the off chance i thought it was any good i may want it to put it on the app store.
i was originally planning to do this for IOS but that has a $99 dev fee and android is only $25

i will be using the unity 3D engine and obviously the android SDK tools.

I only have an iphone.

this will be my first time diving into mobile development

thanks for any help

yes you need one, and using the unity remote app will also speed up the process.

IDK if there are emulators out there but it's good investment to buy a cheap android phone to be able to benchmark how well your games perform on the entry level devices.

I use three devices for testing: a note 2 for the older high end phones, a locally made smartphone for  the entry level and a 10.1 Samsung tablet for testing things out on tablet.

I also sometimes use my father's g4 to test my stuff on octa core stuff but that isn't really needed just a good budget android smartphone would be good.

there are emulators out there, and i believe you can also run android as a virtual machine on your pc. you could also team up with somebody who owns an android device and test your games on his/her phone/tablet.
