Headset or Headphones?

Struggling with this one. Looking for a headset or headphones to go with either Xonar Essence STX or Xonar Phoebus. The headset/headphones will be used for everything games/music/movies and so on. Would be great if i could get some help with this.

Headphoes usually have better quality and both of those soundcards are deserving of a great pair of headphones. My experiences have also been that standalone mics are of a better quality than headset mics

Edit: I can recommend

  • Beyerdynamic DT770 Pros (Closed design)
  • Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros (Open design)
  • Sennheise HD 558
  • Sennheise HD 600
  • Audio Technica ATH-M50

But a budget would help

you'll want a minimum of dt770/880/990 80ohm or 250ohm or sennheiser hd600/650's

with either of those cards due to the output impedance.

and I'd suggest you spend the majority of the budget on the phones, and use onboard, or go fiio e10 if you must upgrade the source.

Will work for electronic components and parts

This is a decent list, go for an open design if you can. If you find bass heavy music as more important you might not like an open back pair, but open will generally be superior for gaming.

My on board audio sucks big time. Also why would you recommend getting the fiio e10?

fiio e10 is external, so you won't have to worry about interference.

The output impedance is lower than anything asus has.

and it has an external analog volume control, so no dealing with digital software volume.
