scanning atm

If I were you, I'd set up a Linux Live CD and scan on Linux to avoid the potential of your Windows antivirus/Windows being compromised.

Scan with 'ClamAV' and 'Avast for Linux' on Linux.

I'd use Linux Mint Cinammon for simplicities sake.

If you need help on that, feel free to reply back. There are also many vids and guides online to help you along the way.

But first definately scan with your AV on Windows first.

personally, I find scanning on Linux gives you that peace of mind you don't have on Windows. If malicious software has made it past your AV in the first place, I doubt your AV will be capable of detecting it.

If a virus infects your PC when you don't have an antivirus, installing an AV and then scanning is practically pointless. Chances are if you did have a virus, your machine and hence your AV (post-virus) are compromised.

I would suggest the following:

1) Back up all your data.

2) Factory reset.

3) Set up AV (I would suggest Norton, you will get 1 month free. Use the trial!)

4) Set up Malwarebytes. To avoid it conflicting with Norton, do not activate the trial. Note however: Malwarebytes usually can be run simultaneously with other AV software as Malwarebytes is Anti-Malware.

5) Connect your backed up data to your machine and scan with Norton and Malwarebytes.

I wouldn't assume your PC is clean. It possibly could be and your PC sleeping could be caused by something else.

I would not assume that though, especially if you didn't have an AV.
