I've carried almost every type of electronics onto a plane. Along with electronic diagnosing tools for mechanical equipment.

Do not check sensitive equipment. Keep all parts and cables organized. As long as weight and dimensions are below regulation their are no problems. You do not have to open the case either. Just say it's a desktop pc and thats it.

Also if possible take the hard drives out and keep them separate.( some countries will check for illegal porn)

I think that import duty doesn't apply to things that are clearly for you. If you bring like 4 packs of cigarettes back from somewhere that's fine, because that's for you, but if you bring 40 you're clearly going to sell them, which makes it taxable/illegal depending. (I think, I'm not liable if you don't check and this turns out to be wrong)

Now how about playing something like CS:GO, BF4, etc. in flight? :)

Oh and what would it be like if you could take some kick-gluteusmaximus gaming rig on board, with something like a full tower gaming case with army-style highlights, RAM with guns on the heatspreaders (like G.Skill Sniper), massive tower cooler or a 360mm water loop (with the 5960X OC'd such that its thermal signature would be like the FX-9590), four R9-390X2 cards (I wish - I hear only 2 would work in crossfire though - maybe the extra PCI-Express slots would be taken by 4TB Intel SSDs), etc..? :)
