what is the difference of the gigabyte g1 gaming 970 vs the 970 Extreme gaming?

the clock speeds, LED lighting?

Which Xtreme cards are you referring to? One of them is water cooled.

Crappy customer support

As an owner of a Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970, I can testify that the fans while loud above 50%, do not have an annoying tone and are quiet when idling. Crappy coolers? Sorry but what are you inhaling? My card never got above 75C with the voltage and power limit sliders maxed. As for customer support, I've never had to contact them so I don't know how they are, but I've heard of customer support being bad for a lot of companies.

gigabyte cards are fine, but asus and evga cards are usually more reliable

Considering MSI 970's fans don't go above 35% I find 50% to be a LOT

Yea, 50% when I was manually tweaking to my own fan curve. It never went that high with the stock BIOS.

It also is dependent on the card's operating environment. If the card is running hotter than in the reviews, the fan speeds will go up as a result.

well the card has a fairly aggresive stock  curve, when i had my stock bios, fan speed was at least 50 percent under load, you would have to have your card running very cool.

I have the windforce version, works great, the extreme is too expensive for a 970, at that price point you should be getting a 390X which would beat the 970 in everything.
