I'm not sure what power supply I'll need for my build. I was going to go with a Corsair RM550x, but I don't know if it will be enough as I want to watercool my computer.

Here's what I'm going to buy:

CPU: Intel Core i5 6600K 3.5GHz
Motherboard: MSI Z170A Krait Gaming Motherboard
RAM: Kingston FURY 16GB DDR4 2400MHz Memory
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Video Card
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO Series 250GB SSD
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3TB

I'm going to have a D5 pump in the case, and about 6-7 fans.

There isn't much limit as to how much it will cost, as I want the power supply to be reliable.

Only 500-550? So the RM550x would work? I thought I might need more :/

for reliability and to carry a 970 card I would go for a 80+gold 650 psu like:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438054

dont listen to the guy above me.. efficiency does not effect reliability and you dont need 650w.. the rm 550x would work yes

you are wrong indeed - efficiency has nothing to do with quality

Antec HCG is 80+ bronze yet is several times better than Corsair CS which is 80+ gold

970 and any other single GPU is fine on 500-550W

Well that system might use 300W if you intend to set fire to your GPU (so expect like 270W under overclocked load) so wattage isn't a huge issue. An EVGA GS/B2/GQ/G2 would be a good option, although I'd go for a 390 over a 970 any day. You'd still be good on any of those PSUs, 550W+.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I wouldn't say many times better but I'm not denying that it IS better.

CS uses chinese caps, mediocre build by Great Wall and overall lackluster performance capping out at 40*C

Antec HCG uses all Japanese caps, OEMed by SeaSonic and has excellent voltage stability and caps out at 50*C - is also cheaper

still beats the CX series

Also when the CS series gets cheap it becomes a decent option for a budget gaming rig

I don't think the HCG is sold in the US anymore
