380x or 970

I was gonna get a 970 for 1440 gaming but then the 380x just came out and its loads cheaper (at least where I am) and i was wondering how the 380x was for 1440, is the 970 still worth the extra costs?

Check out Linus' video. The 380x can run 1440p decently, but the 970 will be at least 20% faster. The 390 would be a good alternative to the 970 though.

The 970 is better than the 380X, but the R9 390 is generally faster than the 970, at the 970 vs 390, get which ever one is cheaper, Sapphire for AMD is preferred.

380X is notable weaker but if there is indeed a huge price difference then 380X might have better value

As the others said, if you plan on the decent cheaper one go with the R9 380X, it can run most games at 1440p in the highest settings.

 

But if you have the cash to spend, either the GTX 970 or R9 390 would do significantly better than the R9 380X.

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

390 is better than both! But 380X is best value. The 970 is good to I guess! :P
