So i just made the switch from a mac to windows and i just encountered an issue i nvr had on a mac. Usually when having skype calls i just plug my earpiece that comes with a mic into the headphone jack on my imac and both the mic and earpiece work no problem. but now on windows, if i plug my earpiece into the headphone jack the mic won't work? is this a hardware or software issue and how can i fix it?

Is it even compatible? Is it driverless? If not, do you have the right drivers? Can you select the audio device in Control Panel?

It's a hardware "problem". A regular mic jack won't work with a 4 pole jack connector, so your computer simply don't pick up the signal from the mic.

The fix would be to get a 4 pole splitter http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-MUYHSFMM-Headset-Splitter-Adapter/dp/B0058DOWH6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449761573&sr=1-1&keywords=4+pole+splitter

Your jack probably doesn't support mic input.

Is your pc laptop or desktop? Most smaller form factor laptops have combo audio jacks which should work like iMac. Larger laptops and all desktops have separate jacks for speakers and mic. If thats the case, you need to get separate mic or separator for signals (if one exists).
