Hey Guys/Girls! I'm new to the forum and to the PC building community. I am putting together my new desktop tomorrow! I have learned so much from LinusTechTips, I have all my computer parts picked put and ready to go.... but now I have more questions which I can not figure out... I want a decent audio set up. I'm looking for suggestions for a DACs/amps(I know those are two different things. Should I buy them separately or not?), headphones, and any other audio devices I may need to make my experience better. I listen to a lot of music. Looking forward to your input!

Hey!

Let's get the headphone out of the way first, because that's the most important part of the audio system.

  • Do you want over-ear, on-ear, or in-ear?
  • Do you need portability (e.g. folding, compact size)?
  • Do you need isolation, either to block outside noise, or keep noise in to avoid disturbing others?
  • Do you like a lot of bass ("boom") in your headphones, or do you like more of a flat, natural sound?
  • Do you care especially about positional audio for games?
  • What kind of music do you listen to?

Once we establish some options for a headphone, then it will be time to think about an amp. I do not recommend getting a DAC unless you find that you have noise or interference on your motherboard audio.

We need to know

1. Currently owned audio equipment

2. Budget for all new audio equipment

3. Purpose of your audio setup

4. if and how extensively you plan on upgrading your setup in the future.

You said "recording studio" in your title, but so far you haven't talked about recording music, only listening to music.
