So I'm browsing the good 'ole interwebs, and all of a sudden my GPU fan speeds up. I open Afterburner, but it shows that it's not under any load or anything, and yet the core clock goes up to around 950MHz (I have an 1100MHz OC). After that, the fan spikes up to around 35%, even though the temperature is not increasing. What's going on? Is it that hysteresis thing or whatever it's called?

Hysteresis deals with prediction done by sensors based on input (whatever your gpu loaded to Vram) but if your GPU is idling it has no reason to jump, if your loading web pages on the other hand it might think there is more work to do than it actually will perform (thus the jump)

So what will allow me for a smoother fan transition and less noise on the desktop and light apps? I don't mind how loud the fan gets (I mean, I OC'd a reference card) but I don't like how it fluctuates a lot.

Umm idk, You could solve it by just letting the fan run even at low or no load, I don't know what to give as advice as I don't understand amd's cards, but you could keep tinkering with a custom fan curve until you get a non annoying outcome that doesn't allow the card to overheat.

I think I've got it. It doesn't go over 55C on the desktop so I have it to not be audible at those temps and lower, and then ramp up once it reaches higher (which it shouldn't).
