First thing I thought when people wanted me to try War Thunder was:

1. Not another shitty game of the pay-to-win World of Tanks / Warplanes model.

2. I'm not really into low tech fighter combat... Sounds boring.

 

Well I was wrong on both counts. It DOES look a LOT like World of Warplanes (an absolute piece of shit game) in the menu UI and the tech tree, but the similarities end there. The game actually gives you enough in game currency to not be handicapped in any way from the start, in the middle, and in the end. I am absolutely awe inspired by the free to play model in this game, which is a lot about cosmetics, additional planes that mostly aren't better than free planes, you can just get them for another country than you would normally be able to if you use money. For example, USSR can get 4 Lenley's (American) air craft by using real money, but they're pretty much identical to the free US ones other than a different weapon loadout to be more in keeping with the USSR way.

 

The gameplay is really smooth in arcade. (I have yet to try Historical or Full Realism modes) It's been a looooong time since I played a free-2-play with these kinds of production values. Graphics are top-notch, bugs are almost non-existent, combat makes sense but is also action-packed... What more could I wish for, right?

 

If you have a Steam account, I urge you to try out this game, you won't see a better free-2-play game in a hundred years.

Sure why not, my in game name is Claywhore. Only play tier 5 or lower though (I don't like any USSR planes above 5 yet, until I can get the TU-2)

I love it too, maybe getting a joystick soon because full real battles are what I like most although being long and very hard.

I tried to play this in beta but my launcher always froze and i gave up. Maybe ill give it another go.

Working on a video atm. All you have to do is search on YouTube, plenty of dry commentary-style let's play stuff there. Look for BaronVonGamez' channel. I'll add my video here when it's done.

Played the game for ages, I love the danm game. The better you do the more money you earn. Simple :D

 

Also, I like to join the games with arcade style flying, but with limited fuel and ammo so that people still have to turn back and land to refuel which i think makes the game so much more entertaining as I usually have a friend to escort me back while I refuel then I cover him while he refules then both head back into the fight.

The historical fights arnt valued very high tbh, I find them boring and the AI pretty much takes care of everything.
