Upgrading laptop processor

So I know this isn't exactly a troubleshooting thing, but I got stuck in a cruddy position where I have to send in my laptop to lenovo for repairs for like 2 weeks. (I could do it myself, but they will do it for free, a good trade off for someone who is broke...) Anyway, I have to use a terrible old laptop I have lying around. It has a celeron B820. I realize that no matter what I do that Im not gonna be gaming on it or anything, but it lags at like 15FPS if I have two chrome windows open at once... And I already had upgraded it to 8Gb of RAM. Anyway I have an i5 2510/2410 something like that. Anyway, and I know it uses the exact same socket. My question is, would it work if I threw it into this laptop? Could it just cook itself to death because of the small heat sink? Would the BIOS even recognize it? any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Well, some laptops have their CPU soldered to the motherboard.. so.. who knows.

You sound confident enough to take it apart and find out yourself, to be fair.

For the sake of being useful..

What laptop is it?

Most laptops have their CPU's directly soldered to the motherboard. It is very likely that you are unable to change the CPU.

For everyone's use. Looks like a 2410 might not work

Join the Appleitionist cause! See spoiler below for answers to common questions that shouldn't be common!

Spoiler

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

You could check if the laptop you have has been released with Intel Core (i3,i5,i7) CPU's in a different config, and if so find out which CPU. Some laptops might not support higher-spec/Hyper-Threaded or quad-core CPU's if they only ship with a DC CPU.
