Right, I need helpz;

 

I have Windows 10 insider preview installed on my PC, however, I wanted to install windows 7 alongside it; so I installed an extra HDD in my computer to install it on;

 

So now, I have a 120GB SSD with Windows 10 installed, as my primary OS

A 2TB HDD for media/document storage

 

And a recently installed 160GB HDD for Windows 7; 

 

Now is where my problem starts; When I try to install Windows 7 onto my 160 GB HDD, I get the following message; *Check Attached Image*

 

All i want to do is simply dual boot Windows 7 alongside Windows 10; any help would be appreciated!

 

I have checked Google, but I couldn't find anything to help; It said something about BIOS settings, so I had a look, but I couldn't find anything that would help?

 

The 160GB HDD is in SATA port 4 if that makes any difference whatsoever..? I don't imagine it would?

What is the SSD set as in the BIOS... ACHI or IDE?

EDIT: Another thing you could do hassle free is taking out the drives with Win10 installed and just leaving in the drive for windows 7 ;) And then slotting the win 10 one back in and boom :)

Is the SATA mode for your motherboard set to IDE or AHCI? You can check this in the BIOS.

Just check it in the area where your Drive is listed and you will probably see an option to reveal more options and it should say IDE or ACHI

Ok this error comes has 2 possibilities

1- Windows 7 doesn't have your SATA controller drivers. Install them at the setup. SImply insert your motherboard disk, or download teh zip version of the drivers and extract them on a disk or USB flash drive (do that on a different PC), back on this system, plug it in (or switch disks), click on "Load Drivers", select the drivers, and you should be good.

2- It is because you install Windows 10 under UEFI mode (you want that), but Windows 7 doesn't fully support UEFI mode. So you need to enable legacy mode (Compatibility System Module or CSM) for your UEFI to emulate the old BIOS. But if you do that, then your Windows 10 will be broken. So, that one would need to be not only re-installed, but you need to backup all your stuff, as the drive would need to be formatted and convert from GPT to legacy MBR partition table for the BIOS to understand.

Are you trying to install it on the 140gb on as that is a system disk you need to format it.

Make sure UEFI is on and you have the correct boot order

Well... I managed to install 7 onto the 160GB; it worked, but i kept getting check disks every time i booted to 7, so i booted to 10, got the same thing, let it check them; and bam, no more windows 7 boot option.. Windows 10 doesn't like its little brother apparently..

 

So.. Looks like I'm stuck with 10!

Yup, like I said. You need to do a full format of the main drive and decide which OS you want. OR, install Windows 10 under legacy BIOS mode, now both will run fine, but your system will be slower to boot (because UEFI is disabled)
